Package Analysis of IR Temperature Sensor

Forehead thermometers, which are most in short supply on the market, are the main bottleneck in the industry due to the tight supply of thermopile infrared body temperature sensors.


The thermopile infrared body temperature sensor is a non-contact MEMS sensor that can passively receive the infrared signal of the measured object.


Ⅰ. Packaging standard of infrared body temperature sensor


The MEMS wafer manufacturing process of the infrared body temperature sensor is relatively simple. Generally, it can be processed by 5-6 beams of light, some conventional thin-film processes and a dry/wet release process, but it itself focuses on the physical structure design, good design. It can enhance the absorption of infrared signals and improve the energy conversion efficiency of infrared light-heat-electricity.


In the case of the same area, the sensitivity of the infrared body temperature sensor can be improved, or in the case of the same sensitivity, the area of the infrared body temperature sensor can be reduced, thereby reducing the cost.


The package of the infrared body temperature sensor follows the TO package standard of optical communication, and the accessories include the thermistor used to calibrate the substrate temperature, the TO metal base with pins, and the TO cap with an infrared filter. Wherein, the infrared body temperature sensor chip and the thermistor are placed on the TO metal base and are electrically connected by wire bonding, and the TO tube cap is airtightly welded to the TO metal base by means of energy storage welding.


Ⅱ. The packaging material of the infrared body temperature sensor


The entire industrial chain of infrared body temperature sensors can be further subdivided into wafer manufacturing, thermistor production, infrared filter coating, tube cap bonding, TO tube socket tube cap opening, TO tube socket plating, glass insulator sintering and so on.


Among them, TO tube socket and cap components rely on the development of the optical communication industry, with suppliers all over the country, and they account for a small proportion of the manufacturing cost of infrared body temperature sensors. Although there are many suppliers of thermistor components, there are not many manufacturers that can satisfy the factory sorting and can provide low-cost and high-precision thermistors.


Infrared filter coating and tube cap bonding will directly affect the performance of the infrared body temperature sensor, such as the transmittance and cut-off wavelength of the coating, and the air tightness of the tube cap bonding. There are certain technical barriers. Therefore, there are only a handful of manufacturers that can perfectly combine the two. As the heart of the infrared body temperature sensor, the MEMS chip can support its stable flow of 6 inches or 8 inches is of course self-evident.


Under normal circumstances, the annual demand for thermopile infrared temperature sensors nationwide is 15-20 million. With China's accession to the Minamata Convention on Mercury, the production of mercury thermometers has gradually decreased, and household infrared thermometers have become more popular. Therefore, the demand for infrared temperature sensors has steadily increased.
