PIR (Passive Infrared Sensor) motion sensor is an electronic sensor used to detect objects emitting infrared radiation within its field of view. It is commonly used in PIR-based motion detectors.
Any object above absolute zero emits heat in the form of radiation, because this radiation is in the infrared band and is invisible to the human eye, but electronic devices designed for this purpose can detect it. The "passive" here means that the PIR itself does not generate any energy for detection. The working principle of the PIR motion sensor is to detect the energy emitted by the target object.
There are many configurations of PIR motion sensors, the most common is the Fresnel lens, whose function in the entire PIR motion sensor is that when the target object (such as a person) enters the detection range, the Fresnel lens converges the infrared radiation emitted by the target object to the sensor surface area. The detection distance is about 10 meters, and the field of view is about 120 degrees.
